Our microwaves at work don't have a 'spinning plate'. As for the vid, thats a really interesting experiment you got yourself there. As long as you don't damage the microwave, as they are a commodity of the Gods!

2.) They're not spinning because I removed the carousel.

Nope. The lightbulbs don't have enough internal pressure to blow up the microwave and I did this in my garage, not my kitchen with a $5 microwave from a garage sale.

microwaves are radio waves that have short frequency enough to cause cellular damage. and since radio waves can pierce metal to some extent do you really think a mesh screens going to save you?

look at the holes on the mesh of the microwave. are they smaller than a pencil? probably so, because microwaves are about the size of a pencil. the waves a broken up by the small holes in the mesh. - science class

Ahhh careless american kids... actually there is a severe danger from this experiment- as you can see there is a very pale violet tint while the bulb glares. Above it(invisible) is the UV emission which is not a good friend for your eyes and skin and yes- such experiments give you a higher chance of getting skin cancer and/or burn your retina.
So before doing and saying stupid things, read!
