i absolutely looooooove shostakovich, because he shares the love! he gives the viola a magnificent solo in this one and in the first movement of the seventh quartet, he gives the cello a fabulous solo. how NICE! not to mention his menacing melodies that are soo catchy. all in all, you gotta love shostakovich!

I don't understand why people have such an aversion to "classical" music. They think that all of it is peaceful and lengthy and boring, when in reality, "classical" music encompasses every emotion and every mindset. Music from the 20th century in particular can be much more rageful, angular, and "hardcore" than any bat-eating, guitar breaking, single-dynamic thrash rocker.

you're totaly right
many people are very ignorant when it comes to classical music. They never get out of the same circle of music they hear so they just think of classical music as boring and quite.

Hear Hear! That's why there is a Facebook group "Shostakovitch is more hardcore than heavy metal." :P
I love Shosty... his music has so much spirit and passion and without it just being random clashing notes. Some of his work isn't so wild... the contrast from the first and second movements of his 5th symphony are quite drastic, ranging from sheer rage to a Russian folk tune... gotta love him!

Though this will be utterly foreign to you, I'll still say it: Tastes can be wrong. Quite wrong. We justly loathe the fly because of its horrid tastes: feces, vomit, and corpses. But to explain all this would take an essay, and frankly, you're just not worthy. Adieu.

"another demographic's different aesthetic taste" Friend, only an obedient subject of today's dictatorship of relativism uses such language. It's utterly shallow and devoid of content, but it's nice and soft, comfortable, inclusive, and all the rest of it. In other words, it's thoroughly Oprahist. As an Oprahist, of course, you love it.
