Thanks for the posting, tinytimton! What a bittersweet video: The first part with Jerry Hadley, gone from the stage due to suicide; and the second part with zany, multi-talented Bill Irwin, who thankfully is still with us.
How ironic that Bill Irwin, one of the most renowned clowns in the world, is pulled off the stage after mentioning "Send In the Clowns".

This concert honoring the great Sondheim was
television at it's best. And nobody sang bet-
ter that night than Jerry Hadley. His voice
was heavenly. He is missed by those who knew
his wonderful talent. His rendition of Pretty
Women must have pleased it's composer greatly.
He will be remembered for a very long time
indeed.

I don't know how far off I am, but isn't it a little bit weird for such and amazing classical singer such as Jerry Hadley to be scooping his voice like that. If I'm wrong, please don't freak out. LOL

No no no... it's entirely a stylistic choice. Many classical works are scooped. If you listen to Renee Fleming, she does it quite often (too much in my opinion), but Jerry was completely capable of not scooping. He chose to in order to get the emotional feeling he wanted.

I agree. I think what makes Into the Woods great is James Lapine's book. And what makes Company great is that it was first of its kind.
But every time I hear an excellent rendition of Sondheim's score for Sweeney Todd I am just overwhelmed with so many different emotions: fear, joy, sadness, anger. It's flawless.

I agree with you completely it's brilliant
even though the Jhonney Depp film kind of made me hate it for a while because it was SO BAD but the teleivsed version with George Herm......Wow! I think Into the woods is his second best then sunday in the park with George I don't like Company that much and I like his lycers for West side Story
and Assassins is good as well but Sweeney Todd is the best I think out of those

I agree with you completely. I think Sunday in the Park with George comes in second, then Sweeney Todd.
I think the reason Into the Woods is his greatest, is because it came from his mind. Sweeney Todd is based on a play.
