Freedom River

Uploaded by: swimidiot
Video Description:
Concentrating on an area of growing concern in our society--the indifference that makes people blind to the injustices around them--this animated parable traces how the erosion of freedom, like the pollution of natural resources, can occur so gradually that both evade the attention of a busy and preoccupied nation. (Narrated by Orson Welles)

the American public has no say in these matters and no real effect on anything. Many if not disillusioned by the political process are dumb enough to believe that there's power in voting.

I sincerelly think ... ( 3 months ago by Twinkabela)
I sincerelly think that this message is beyond the simple definition of government, because if you think carefully people who are on the government are just as human as you and me. This is a general message to harmony and respect, to honesty and justice. We are all free, but we need to respect that not everyone is equal to us, and stop rebelling and causing rebelion. War only generates war.
If everyone applaudes this matter it will just keep on going and going. If people took a stand...

Wow - that video is a spookily accurate portrayal of the nature of democracy today. They should show that in cinemas before films instead of the 30 minutes of adverts - people need to see it!

not all Republicans, just the ones who gain high ranking position in the party.
And Ron Paul's a liberal in libertarian clothing.
Any guy who said the Civil War didn't need to be fought isn't looking at the effect of the War as a whole.

There are too many voices and not enough river anymore. We have all had to move away from the river of freedom because of the garbage we have let stew in it. Whether that river is indicative of our gov'ts or peace of living without trashing our world does not matter. This is a wonderful video from an era that would have seriously frowned apon it.
Now we accept seeing videos like this but most of us will carry on and toss another rotten apple into the stream!

i said: "respecting that not everyone is equal to us", meaning that i dont understand why when i get a history book and study about it all i will see is people trying to impose their ideals on other people. so... war. that's what comes next.

And im talking about the governers like this because people tend to throw rocks at them in a matter of finding someone to blame. True - they do have a lot do deal with... however, the power to do so will not be theirs unless we believe in them, right? That's where all the manipulation begins.

Picture this as a maze. there is a big difference from when you have a panoramic view and when you don't. now, in this case, what will give you a panoramic view? the values this video showed. harmony and respect. honesty and justice. now... the values that we live under, they only give panoramic SELF views.

No it didn't. The internet was originally developed as a military system, not as a profit seeking endeavor. Electricity was discovered through human curiosity, not desire for profit. Computers were developed by the military, and in universities receiving government funding. But you're right, youtube was created to turn a profit. So you can cling to your religious faith in the "free" market. Hurray for the freedom to exploit and oppress.

Look up the z3, made in 1941 by some guy tinkering. Maybe the military sped up the computer's development and the internet, maybe the taxation and wars slowed it down. If it did speed up computer development, are you saying that's worth the wars?
"Too much freedom leads to disorder!"
The internet was proposed by some guy at MIT, whose idea caught the DOD's eye. That's it. The military didn't develop it, hell without taxation he may have found some other way to develop it.
And the ability to ... ( 2 weeks ago by confederalsocialist)
And the ability to exploit and oppress is only possible if you can shift the cost of exploitation.
Why is it always corporations that do bad things? Why is it "corporate welfare" and not "company welfare"? Simple: the only way a company can profitably screw the consumer is to get the consumer to pay for his own shafting.
If a company tried to pay workers below their MRP ("wage slavery") without a state, they would basically be fighting a guerrilla war. This was seen in the homestead riots.
"are you saying ... ( 2 weeks ago by TrojanXero)
"are you saying that's worth the wars?"
Of course not. My point was that the "free" market is not what facilitated those advances.
The people who did ... ( 2 weeks ago by confederalsocialist)
The people who did that were all free marketeers. Darpanet was headed by an MIT guy, funded by the DOD. It wasn't developed by the DOD. Nothing is. Government can't even build roads, it contracts everything out.
The only case you could make is that it provides compulsive (Taxes, don't pay you go to prison) coordination. But remember, the world wars wiped out a lot, who knows where we would be without it. And to say "I support only GOOD government" is just cherry-picking. It's all or nothing.

This is a very bad video that places blame where it does not belong. Those "others" who came up with the "solution to the problem" are, of course, the New World Oder.
Please, wake up and redirect the flow yourselves. It can be done now, this moment.
