They're going to recover his body afterwards and dispose of it maybe? Out there in the middle of nowhere he's out in the open and defenseless. It's sort of like earlier on in this film when Thornhill's a prisoner in the house and Van Dam is told by the woman posing as his wife
"The guests are here"
We never see these 'guests' or have any idea who they might be, Hitch was asked about the guests and he said "I really have no idea being as I've never met the lady".

i thought this scene was great til i saw dark knight. then i realized that films like this aren't THAT good they're just old classics but people these days never appreciate new cinema. seriously, the scene in dark knight when the semi truck flips isn't good. its fucking monumental just like this scene. maybe fifty years from now people will appreciate it.

At least you can see the picture in NBN unlike TDK which was murky at best. And the score in NBN enhanced the movie, not intrude, like TDK. And as for Heath, he's no Cesar Romero and he's certainly no T.C Jones.

you are right. this isn't like the dark knight. it's not underexposed, shaky-cam, pop culture junk. i enjoyed the dark knight. third best film of all time [according to imdb's users]? no. of course not. a lot of that movie should have ended on the cutting room floor, but it was enjoyable. the dark knight is a movie, north by northwest is cinema.

brilliant. Just the loneliness of the road, as cars whizz by.
The way the highway bisects the screen at an angle in the birdseye shot, the bus roaring off... TDN was pompous, blaring crap.

I had the privilege of seeing this film on screen at a local art house theater, and it was an absolutely amazing experience. Everytime the crop duster flew towards the camera, you couldn't help but flinch.
