well he's playing vintage drums which have a weird sound (usually heavier and damper), coated heads, they have good mic-ing and they are tuned low... it's not a specific note or anything... just play around with your own drums, but you won't get them to sound like dave's anytime soon... create your own identity

these guys are pretty sweet, i saw them live back in august when i saw my favorite band, coheed and cambria. they were awesome live, and i love their music. great band. and just my personal opinion, but the drummer looks a lot like justin long.

yeah your best bet is to get a set with large drums, and coated heads on each side, then dampen the heads.
