You will notice in "The Beautiful Truth Excerpts" that Dr. Eichman and I are both wearing masks. What you should go watch is "Poison in Your Dentist's Office" to hear how California OSHA board officials felt about the fact that the California Dental Association has not advised its members how to comply with the employee protection laws.
1. Inform Employees
2. Measure
3. Monitor
4. Train both engineering and work practice controls
5. Maintain records of these required activities for 30 years.
The main trouble ... ( 1 week ago by davidkennedydds)
The main trouble with root canals is that the tooth is not sterile and furthermore the necrotic pulp contents cannot be completely removed.
A 10 year-old study found that root-canaled teeth have between 3000 and 4000 pathogenic anaerobic bacteria per square millimeter of dentin while a vital tooth has 3 to 4.
Therefore, all root canals pose a potential risk to the patient. How much and how serious has not been well research. Most dentists are currently in the denial phase of understanding.

A sample population of 2 people? Doesn't sound very credible and the chances that their findings were due to random chance is pretty high.
OOps I was wrong. ... ( 5 days ago by davidkennedydds)
OOps I was wrong. It's 780 not 750. Phillips text book on page 191 of the fifth edition of "Restorative Dental Materials" that the size of an amalgam that would fit most general usage is .78 gram of alloy. This translates to a 780 mg of alloy or approximately a 3 spill amalgam. Depending upon the mixing ratio of the particular amalgam as laid out below, you would have a range of mercury from 780 mg up to just under 1000 mg in a typical 3 spill (800mg) capsule.
Amalgam ... ( 5 days ago by davidkennedydds)
Amalgam Manufacturers "Synopsis of Dental Amalgam Alloys":
Brand Name Percent Mercury
Dispersalloy 50%
Tytin 57.5%
Tytin FC 55.5%
GS-80 52.1%
Lojic 57.8%
Permite 52.1%
Zenith Prem Dispersed 50%
Zenith Royale HC 50%
Zenith Type -T 57%
Do the math: a single spill Tytin capsule of 400 mg alloy will contain about 540 mg mercury. Fillings are 3 to 10X that large.
Array ( 5 days ago by davidkennedydds)
Megalloy EZ 57%
Unison 58%
Valiant 57%
Valiant PhD 52.75%
Valiant Snap-Set 57%
Contour 53%
Sybraloy 55.5%
Needless to say, there is a load of Hg in all of these amalgams no matter what the spill size. In the case of Tytin, if you have 400 mg alloy in a single spill, then the manufacturer will have added about 540 mg mercury in the capsule to obtain the proper mixing ratio.

OOps Wrong again. It was Robert Craig's Dental Materials text book 5th edition not Phillips.

ITS THE LAW
Failure to do any and all of the above OSHA requirements is a crime. The fact is this crime is quite common. In fact no dentists I know still using mercury have complied with the letter or the spirit of the law.
Many dentists who do not use mercury do comply by keeping their facility clean with engineering and work practice controls so that it is unlikely that an exposure will occur.
OSHA will investigate the office upon anonymous complaint by an employee or upon request.

What I gave you in the earlier message was the alloy content, not the Hg content.

So in your opinion ... ( 3 days ago by flake007)
So in your opinion it is better to extract a tooth? To answer your dilema to Root Canal treatment, it is true that when the pulp it exposure to the oral bacteria it becomes a non-sterile environment; thas why we use an irrigation protocol to get rid of bacteria and dissolve the organic content of root.
The irrigation ... ( 3 days ago by flake007)
The irrigation protocol its the following:
1. The first solution we use is Sodium hypochlorite 5.25% at room temperture, or also you can use it al 1% at a 60°C (it has bactericidal cytotoxicity, dissolution of organic material, and minor lubrification)
2. Then irrigate the canal with water or fisiologic solution (to remove the hypoclorite)
3. Irrigate with EDTA (17%) (Ethylene diaminetetraacetic acid,)these is to open up the pores of canal.
There are two ... ( 3 days ago by davidkennedydds)
There are two problems with your solution. First and foremost research has firmly established that you cannot physically dissolve and remove the organic contents of the root. Therefore you have to leave gangrenous pulp in the canal.
second and perhaps even more importantly the tooth itself fills up with periodontal anaerobic pathogens regardless of how thoroughly you disinfect the canal. A major problem as I see it.
You apparently can temporarily disinfect the roots with iodine but not long.
Blah blah blah. . . ... ( 3 days ago by davidkennedydds)
Blah blah blah. . . we do this and we do that but show me the analysis of the root contents when you are done.
Research has confirmed that regardless of how you try even specialists cannot make a porous tooth sterile.
Like a dead tree in the forest. . . once the tree dies the bugs start recycling the wood. Unfortunately the bacteria that dwell in dead teeth release hydrogen sulfide gas and many hugely toxic exotoxins are released from many but not all dead teeth with or without root canal.
Root canals are ... ( 2 days ago by davidkennedydds)
Root canals are efforts to retain a non-vital body part. Dentistry is the only profession that does this to my knowledge. Think about a dead toe for example.
Would you pay thousands of dollars to screw a dead toe back on, paint it skin colored, manufacture a porcelain nail to replace the one that fell off, deodorize it frequently because it smells? Or would you think that process insane?
When dead we have two choices:
A. You can be buried
B. You can be stuffed
Root canals are the latter.

As far as stating ... ( 1 day ago by kj2177)
As far as stating that leaving pulp tissue is like leaving "gangrenous pulp tissue," that's no different that the dead or, "gangrenous" skin sells in your outer epithelium. And since I see root canals that have been successful on a daily basis for 30 years +, I have a hard time understanding how it would benefit the patient have a tooth extracted where they may get a bridge, (very undesirable), or an implant. which could be rejected by the host.
And even though ... ( 1 day ago by kj2177)
And even though implants have a very high success rate, they are still untested over 25 years. We retain all sorts of dead parts of our body. An implant is an inorganic, (nonliving), thing that never was part of our body. We have dead skin cells, constantly dying erythrocytes, dead fingernails and toenails, and we usually maintains some bit of fecal matter in us at all times. So saying that root canal treated teeth are like dead toes is just not a plausible comparison at all.

There is a lot of misunderstanding here so I'll try one at a time to explain.
1. The interior of the bowel is a skin lined tube that is technically outside the body. Swallow a marble and see if it gets into your brain.
2. Exfoliating skin is normal. The underlying skin is alive and protecting you.
3. Dead white blood cells are called pus and as Hippocrates said, "Pus will out." The body rejects and ejects dead white blood cells as fast as possible.
4. Dead red blood cells are recycled.
If your only ... ( 17 hours ago by davidkennedydds)
If your only criteria for success is the absence of pain and the fact that the remnants of the tooth remain in the jaw for long periods of time then you are correct.
If you want a dead root full of bacteria that constantly produce hugely poisonous exotoxins then keep it. Measurements of dead teeth find that many of them leak these extremely poisonous small protein molecules into the body.
If your criteria for success is to not insult the immune or neurological system then root canals fail.
Nutrition will help ... ( 17 hours ago by davidkennedydds)
Nutrition will help remove mercury but unfortunately the only safe way to deal with this heavy metal is to avoid it in the first place. The antidotes to mercury are sulfur foods like beans and garlic, selenium, and a whole, host of vitamins.
Unfortunately the nervous system in some people is incapable or very weak in removing mercury. Genetically termed APO-e 4/4 or 4/3. That includes about 15% of the human population.
Just say no to more mercury and make the dentists stop implanting it.
