That's a fairly ... ( 2 months ago by unclebanana)
That's a fairly meaningless 'freedom' for the millions of working people--most of humankind--living in miserable poverty around the world, dying of malnutrition, and preventable disease. Tell me that your answer is anything other than, "fuck em', let em' starve."
You people and your ... ( 2 months ago by unclebanana)
You people and your cavalier attitude to the misery of the world's working class reminds me of Marie Antionette when she remarked, "let them eat cake." It's easy to be so indifferent when it isn't your family starving to death.
You need to keep in ... ( 2 months ago by mockhazzard)
You need to keep in mind that people who follow libery, and are around those who also follow libery, then they will naturally improve themselves. this is likely to fail if there are those around who steal and such because they will become opressed. Many countires who are in poverty is because this situation exists. The freedom they have is to do something about it. if they so choose. but in some cases, they are simply outnumbered.
So what ... ( 2 months ago by karang4)
So what specifically are you doing to help those people? You can only help people in countries that have extreme poverty by providing freedom, we want to start at home and provide an example for the rest of the world.
So if I owned all ... ( 2 months ago by unclebanana)
So if I owned all the penicillin in the US, I should be able to charge as much as I like for it, regardless of the human costs? Sounds like, "fuck 'em, let 'em die" to me.

If you did that in a free market, a competing producer of penicilin could always undercut your prices.
In the history of mankind, no mechanism has proved so efficient, as to making supply meet demand as the free market and open competition. This is why people in capitalist countries has much better access to penicilin, food and other amenities.
The only society were one instituion owns all the penicilin, is a socialist or fascist society. And that institution is the state.
Unless I bought ... ( 2 months ago by unclebanana)
Unless I bought them out, or established 'trusts'(like the US govt. established the Sherman Act and Clayton Act to curtail--but of course you would repeal such laws). Even then, competing producers would be few a far between. A small coterie of businessmen would still nevertheless control penicillin.
People in capitalist countries have better access to penicillin eh? Countries like Peru, El Salvador, Honduras, Panama, Thailand, Chile and Ecuador?
There is little or ... ( 2 months ago by unclebanana)
There is little or no reason for working people to support libertarianism, as libertarianism seeks to empower those that oppress and exploit them in the accumulation of their wealth. Libertarianism won't appeal to the wealthy, because they like huge immensely profitable no-bid defense contracts stemming from massive invasions paid for by the rest of us. The rich--with perhaps a few exceptions here and there--like imperialism.
The rich like and ... ( 2 months ago by unclebanana)
The rich like and support the invasion and domination of other nations. They like the system of client states used by the US govt. to project its power and influence around the world. They get off on stomping on third world nations like Grenada, Nicaragua, El Salvador, Panama, Hati, and Iraq. It makes them feel tough and macho, makes them wealthier, and also sends a message to anybody thinking about plotting a course independent from the imperialist orbit.

The rich like, enjoy, and will fight to preserve the massive security apparatus constructed to defend and increase their wealth at the expense of everybody else on planet earth.
Unclebanana, the ... ( 1 month ago by DaveDoggOwns)
Unclebanana, the Anti-trust acts were put in place to protect businesses that couldn't offer equal value at equal cost as the industry leaders. The anti-trusts were AGAINST the interest of the consumer since you are forcing the more productive business owners to slice off parts of their business to less productive competitors.
One word: monopoly. ... ( 1 month ago by unclebanana)
One word: monopoly. Ever play the board game? Big fish eats the little fish. Once a single firm has emerged triumphant after the dust settles, they can establish their own terms: charge what they like, create artificial shortages, etc. And what do you have? Unaccountable private tyranny. What are we, the majority (working people) supposed to do? Boycott the only single company that supplies a necessary good or service? That's not feasible.
Naw Even better ... ( 1 month ago by DaveDoggOwns)
Naw Even better than boycotting. Ask companies from other industries (that are also getting screwed) to use price discrimination against them.
this exists. its ... ( 1 month ago by mockhazzard)
this exists. its called Gasoline. Fortunitly there are bright minds out there finding ways around using gasoline. Why is it taking so long to switch to alternitive fuel sources? because so many people are making money from gas, and gas companies are SOOOOO big it takes a lot of stones and alot of time to topple the gas wall.
read my other post ... ( 1 month ago by mockhazzard)
read my other post on gasoline. and as for penecilin, its just like every other product, theres always a way around it. I for one am allergic to penecilin, but there are other products out there i can use instead. It would be difficult for one company to compeltely control a absolute neccesity without there being some alternative or law against it.
Monopoly only ... ( 2 weeks ago by lukeev)
Monopoly only exists within the state. That's what monopoly is, an extension of the largest (and utterly violent) monopoly - government. In a free-market there is no barrier to competition and thus no monopoly. It is uneconomical to use force unless you can externalise cost (i.e. taxpayers/human sheep). The state creates and protects monopoly. The evil private monopoly scare tactic is just statist propoganda and pure fallacy logically and economically speaking.
Alternative fuel ... ( 2 weeks ago by lukeev)
Alternative fuel sources simply can't compete with gasoline (yet). Stop having a go at oil, we all use oil, in our cars in our plastics etc; it's great, it helps lift us all out of abject poverty. If you are worried about pollution, that is a matter of property rights, or rather a lack thereof! This is the 'tragedy of the commons' which is caused by governments. More government = fewer property rights = externalisation of costs via pollution. Without government we'd all be using hydrogen by now.
That's doubtful. ... ( 2 weeks ago by unclebanana)
That's doubtful. The ones who produce, and sell the oil would prefer that we remain dependent upon their product. Their pals in govt. assist them in this endeavor. The govt. is their apparatus of rule. Basically, the wealthy like this arrangement, or at least prefer it to the alternatives. That's why they won't ever implement your ideology.
Only in the state ... ( 2 weeks ago by unclebanana)
Only in the state eh? Then what do you call the massive trusts which emerged here in the US towards the end of the 19th century? Standard Oil anyone? Don't like the state eh? Fine, do away with the apparatus of capitalist rule, and see what us workers do in response. Us 'rabble' will running the show in no time. We'll be able to realize our goal of a socialist America even sooner!
How do you think ' ... ( 2 weeks ago by lukeev)
How do you think 'monopoly' protects itself from competition? Through the state apparatus (hence lobbying, aka bribery) via favourable regulations, laws, war etc. It shunts competition, this could not happen in a laissez faire 'capitalist' society (which we DON'T have as I've said). I think your beef is with corporatism, not capitalism per say. After all in a free-market situation workers would have more say (and pay!) anyway. Get rid of government, evil Mr.Bankster & Co. will crumble to dust.
Sure they would, ... ( 2 weeks ago by lukeev)
Sure they would, just as banana sellers would like us to eat bananas. That doesn't imply some conspiracy theory, oil reps going around beating up electric car drivers or something! BP invest more in alternative fuels research than almost any other company in the world. The pollution problem is a 'problem' of the commons (state assimilation of private property for 'public property' & externalisation of pollution costs via taxation). I.e. we *should* all being suing the SHIT out of Exxon et al!

2) The richest ... ( 1 day ago by RevolutionaryJam)
2) The richest members of society typically have all they need and all the luxuries they want so they tend to spend any increase in their income A) on shares which they get dividends from, B) on property which they get rent from or C) on usuary which they get interest from
this means that while contributing NO labour themselves they gain capital on the wealth they already have acrued from those who ARE actually contributing labour in order to make a living. This is a form of... slavery!
