Gordon Lightfoot Live - If You Could Read My Mind

Uploaded by: jcdelpaggio
Video Description:
My second (and last) recording of Gordon Lightfoot's performance at the Thunder Bay Community Auditorium on October 12th, 2006. This song also inconveniently stops due to the length of the recording time allowed by the camera. Also, the video is out of sync again with the audio only after uploading. It's a great sampler, nonetheless. Enjoy!

Mr Lightfoot has been off alcohol since 1984.Any addiction is a disease-nothing to joke about. He has also recovered from a near-fatal abdominal aneurysm & has had to have painful restorative ab muscle grafts so he could sing again.I for one thank God he made it! Listen to his words & the gentle softness of his voice even now.He is truly gifted & and very courageous to overcome all that stood in the way of his being on stage when this video was made.

i'm not passing judgment. when i pay good hard earned money to see a performer he should be sober and give a performance worth the money spent. gordon lightfoot didn't do that the last time i saw him. it was a long time ago and i'm thankful he quit drinking. but for me to take time out of my life to see him stumble over his words, forget lyrics, that is totally unprofessional and that is all i was saying. good luck gord. stay off the booze.

About 20 years ago Gord and the band started playing this tune more like the studio version and it sounds better each time I hear them play it .. aside from Gord, Rick is the only one in the current band to have played on the original recording.

I THIRD your comment--the man is an icon;a legend--like Dylan,Prine,Springsteen,etc---I would rather hear him turn in his worst performance anyday than any of the newer artists who dont know a thing about feeling or emotion in music--just sex!!

It's ALL ABOUT THE MONEY huh ?
You stupid fuck - Music is too wonderful a pleasure for your ears.
Take time out of your self important life to consider we are ALL the sum of our pain and fears - as well as our hopes and joys.
That's what you hear in Gordon Lightfoot's songs you fool.
Judge not yet ye be judged

Gord struggled with alcoholism in the early 80's, he was man enough to seek help and stay sober. He has survived a number of health issues in the past five years, he was in a coma for four months. The world is lucky he survived and came back to live perform in 2004. We should consider these years bonus years, he could have died like John Ritter did of the same thing.

Oh my. I love this man's love, unrequited. I did not know the business about his personal struggle but knew when Cathy ran to hide out with him after the Belushi deal, he made he go back to the States and turn herself in.

The "performing world" has for far too long been one filled with drug and alcohol abuse. Anyone who points out the importance of "staying off the booze" as mshorba did, is only pointing out what needs to be said.
Many excellent performers have literally seen their careers go up in smoke out down the drain due to addictions. mshorba is reminding us all of the importance of "clean living" and our obligations to an audience and our selves. Bravo for her.

For the record, I love Gordon Lightfoot and his music. I was lucky enough to hear him play live a number of times when I worked at the Gaslight in NYC in the early '70's, at the height of the folk rock era. It was great! So many great singer / songwriters / musicians everywhere you went. Those were the days!
