His real name was Roger Keith Barret.
Roger's full name was George Roger Waters.

Ah, actually they did, the fuckwit so-called 'friends' that he lived with were constantly spiking his food and drinks with LSD, unbeknownst to him, so although he was already taking a shitload, he was being totally double or even triple dosed. Some friends, eh?
And they DID NOT leave him 'to live in squalor', they made sure he always got his royalties, and so had quite a comfortable lifestyle. Apparently he left over a billion dollars on his death.

Ask Peter Jenner, Syd's manager, he would tell you that Vegetable Man is a piece of crap, that Syd was in REAL bad shape when he wrote it, that by then he hadn't written anything decent for almost a year and that it's merely a description of himself. By this moment in history, your "genius" had the creativity of a retard. He was a drulling, staring zombie who couldn't perform decently onstage and could hardly recognize people.He was never really good, but here youre talking about his very worst.

Syd Barrett wasn't ever half the lyricist Roger Waters is, a quarter the musician Gilmour and Wright are and and 10% the composer they all got to be at some point. Syd sucked BIG TIME. If there was such a thing as a top 10 worst rock songs, they would be all Syd.
Syd had one good musical piece: Astronomy Dominie and one good lyric: Dark Globe. He never had good music and lyrics together.True, he wasn't around music enough to develop himself, but who's to blame for that? just SYD

Syd was great and he got the Floyd moving in a great direction but they become more and more amazing as time progressed, even after his departure. David Gilmour is a genius, and has an amazing voice and plays guitar like none other.
I'd like to think that Syd's charismatic and creative genius from his early days rubbed off on Waters and that Waters had an influence on Gilmour. The band was fantastic throughout the 70's and beyond, even without Syd... not to say they'd have done it without him

What I love about this particular video are the painstaking efforts put forth by the band to synch their performance up with the music. It was probably a real pain in ass back then and they pull it off flawlessly.
