not enough to require stitches. i dont think it was really a tear. more like a skid mark/ i dont know cause i didn't see it =]

the skin in the vagina is very elastic and all wrikled up and wating to be stretched out... like it was designed to do...
if sex was never pleasurable again, this would not make sex desirable and lessening the chance of the species to live on. i highly doubt nature would sabotage itself in this way.
i feel sad that you have such a distorted and negative view of birth.
Thanks for your ... ( 7 months ago by MEDAD28)
Thanks for your input. I don't have a distorted view. I just know too many women who have had 4th degree tears and were never able to have an enjoyable love like again. I am terrified that will happen to me. But it is nice to hear of a positive birth experience as I have not heard many.

my sister had a 4th degree. she is fine. she had a hospital birth an epidural did your friends have hospital births/ did they have episiotomies. the only times i have heard of tearing that bad is from an episiotomy. i would suggest joining a homebirth forum.. not to get you to want to have a homebirth, but so you can hear of positive birth experiences. im sad that you are afraid.
So your sister had ... ( 7 months ago by MEDAD28)
So your sister had no long term effects from the 4th degree? Did it take her long to heal? The friends who had 4th degree all had episiotomies. They also developed scar tissue, making intercourse painful. My OB said he does not do routine episiotmies unless the baby is in distress. Do you recommend any websites? Hearing more positive experiences would be nice.

have you read any books especially on natural childbirth/ i would recommend 'chilbirth without fear,' 'spiritual midwifery,' 'heart and hands'- this is a midwife guidebook like a test book but more interesting.
i can compile a really good list. the more you read about normal non traumatic birth the less fearful you become. the less fearful you are, the better your body can work to get the baby out.
what i am guessing ... ( 7 months ago by megxdavies)
what i am guessing with your friends is that they had epidurals. pushed for a long time with no progress or were told the baby was stuck/ were interventions like forceps or the vacuum used/ epidurals prevent your body from sending signals from the uterus to the brain because of the numbness- therefor causing complications or failure to progress.

just talked to my sister she had a really bad 3rd to a 4th degree. healing sucked. it was painful for about 4 months after. bbut she is fine now.

a list would great, and I'll look up the ones you already mentioned. I started this search trying to find "positive" experiences as I am terrified from all the horrible ones I've been told about and the after effects. Thank you so much :)

I thought I posted this before- but it's not showing up. Is there any other way to describe what labor feels like besides menstrual cramps?

my doctor said that ... ( 4 months ago by cuddy01us)
my doctor said that she can't wait to cut the cord untill it stops pulsating bc. if she does she has to hold the baby way down below me. I read that you should wait untill it stops pulsating like you said and that is what I want. I don't know if they are going to make it diff. for me to have it done the way I want.
Thats absolutely ... ( 4 months ago by megxdavies)
Thats absolutely untrue about having to hold it below you. It stops pulsating because the placenta starts to separate recieving no more blood. If you hold the baby below you, you may give the baby back more of its own blood. But placenta will stop pulsating on its own. seriously. But she probably does what she does without having seen it happen is only telling you what she has been told about it. Doctors are full of b.s. sometimes. .
Its like Dr.'s ... ( 4 months ago by megxdavies)
Its like Dr.'s telling you you need an episiotomy to fit a baby through. Thats false! Sure in RARE emergency situations it could POSSIBLY help. I think its bc Stitching a clean cut as opposed to a natural tear is a lot easier making it more convenient for them. HOWEVER, There is greater chance for a higher degree of tear if an episiotomy is used. Perhaps it is also a convenient thing for the cord as well. Who wants to sit around and wait for a cord when they have other things to do?

Thank you! And you are welcome!
I noticed that lots of women just want to know the process and what it feels like. Also, if the "pain" is do-able. So, I thought i would voice my oppinion. I am not good in front of a camera! hahaha. oh well.
THank you again.

thank you for your comment! I truly believe it is the best way to birth. Just remember, there most likely will come a time when you feel like its too much and you can't do it anymore. you are in transition most likely and will be ready to push shortly! so hang it there. good luck with your birth!!!

You are so true. Your body do know when it is time to push. Sometimes doctors tell you that it is not time but your body says yes it is.
