I did posted this video years ago together with another that was removed due to copyright reason. In that It was explained that this composition was made by Carmen believing that music was public domain, but in fact that music was of Sergei Rachmaninov's Piano Concerto No. 2 in C minor. Later Carmen agreed with Rachmaninov state to add his name in authors, as it should be from the beginning.
Another video of Eric Carmen singing his song "All by Myself"... aired for tv show "UK Gold" during 1976 in UK... by that time the song was #26 in British charts reaching later #12.
In this version Carmen sing and play without playback... together with group (which is noticed by the sign he made to the group in minute 3:43 to enter in the closing part).

You are right! when the flute starts to play in Rachmaninov's Concerto Nº02 it's almost the same song! ... Just like the beginning of "All by myself" ... And then the piano goes on with the next chords of this latter song ...

Serguey Rachmaninnoff was a russian composer. This THIEF, called "Eric Carmen", smartly just put a few stupid words in his music and made success...of course, the song is a Rachmaninnoff's masterpiece. It was made on early 1910, before the Titanic sank. It calls Concert number 2 for piano and orchestra, opus 52. This is a great stolen...a simply robbery!!!. This guy, Eric Carmen should be processed by millions from Rachmaninnoff's family. I challenge anyone to see how identical is!!

If you relax of your rant... you will see that this popular composition have added something to the magnificent creation of beloved Sergei... and have made him famous among pop fans... this have made famous too "screaming" Celine... meanwhile take a chill pill.

Yes indeed that's how its done, I bet someone in Rachman's day complained that he stole HIS
ideas, at least its alot better than doing the same tired chord sequences like others.
Great piano rock n roll/pop/soul writers and producers all stole from the Classical and Broadway writers and added their own 3 cents, its genius still, you need lyrics too.
If you can put a hundred years between influences you are doing pretty damn good.
Then still you have to sing like this, incredible.
