Actually Ham radio does have a purpose. Why don't you go to a shelter in the middle of a Hurricane. Look at Katrina.....Ham radio was very prevalent there...mostly because we will be the only ones that will be able to broadcast on analog TV next year....try buying a small TV set that will catch Digital signal.

When severe thunderstorms started to threaten the Midwestern United States with tornadoes, hail, severe lightning and rain starting June 4, state agencies were quick to call on Amateur Radio operators for assistance. Later in the month, hams manned the Iowa State Emergency Operations Center in the wake of Mississippi River flooding that drowned parts of Iowa.

what is utter crap about this, i dont know where you are but here in where i am the national weather service gets as good of report about storm conditions such as wheather or not a a tornado is confirmed to be on the ground a nd exactly where it is because ham radio operators like myself are out there in the storms reporting them. what you see in this vid is the real deal. it is what hams really do with their own time and money. withpot us everyone else would be lost.

Thats exactly it. I was trying to impress this to the user who said that there is no use for ham radio anymore. I think it's the total opposite now days. Hams are the life blood for major emergencies. Without us there would be a big communication break down.

I see your Point but when all the Power goes out and your Cell Phones are dead Please dont go banging on the Door of a Ham Radio Operator. Im sure you can fend for yourself with no Communications or any other means to contact your family or Emergency Services...Im sure you can send up Smoke Signals or attach a message to a Carrier Pigeon to get food and water and other essentials for survival....Your right a pointless hobby for silly wee twerps...DOnt come knockin on my door..N7RUE from Arizona

IMHO Ham can attract some types with defects of character. That's not to say that most hams aren't perfectly OK...but I found a small minority that were just busybodies trying to make out they were doing something important and acting all hoity-toity for no reason.
I have to ridicule this...because it is rdiculous!!!
