Thanks for posting this. This is great scene in a great movie, and I always wanted to find out what the hell he said in that whisper! I kinda figured it was something like a promise of future contact, judging from how much better they both appeared to feel after this encounter. I've replayed the scene many times trying to nail it, but I think you may have done it here.

I loved the film and I love Bill Murray as an actor, but I think if the actors ages had been just a little closer it would have been an even better film. The question you raise is about the only thing I didn't like about it. I wanted it to be love, denied only by their current relationships rather than an enormous 30yr? age gap too.

I travelled for first time in my life in Japan and I felt all these ..strange things ! and .. cultural shocks ! as shown in the film..
It is amazing to live the same life as the actors perform..!
Bravo to Sofia Copolla and the producers..

Everyone seems to be so happy to know what he said...and having seen this probably 80 times or so myself, I have to admit I was a bit curious. However it was intentionally left vague and open to the viewers interpretation by Sofia. I will continue to view it with my own ending. The fact that everybody has (or had...) their own guess as to what was said made it all the more special.
