I also believe in free will and determinism. Thanks for sharing what you've learned, your videos are invigorating. Love the classical music in the background. I introduced annosdomum to your videos and he loves them too. Great stuff, can't wait for the next part, thank you.

Don't you think the cogito comes to many thinkers independently? It certainly did to me, when making my own trip out of pit of skepticism -- years before I would encounter Descartes or Augustine.
I suppose my point is that if many arrive at this thought independently, it's not so interesting that Augustine did at well.
I won't debate Augustine's deep influence on western though, however. ;)
Good on your for encouraging others to read him, I certainly value my study of the Confessions.

mike,
it's hard to hear you with the music playing in the background. I am also at a loss for any good reason why you'd want to have the music playing. The classy music does not make you sound intelligent. It's annoying.

That is really interesting that Augustine was born in North Africa. I didn't know the history of the philosopher. I have read about some of his ideas, though I have read and am more familiar with Aristotle, Plato and Socrates. Thanks for sharing this info.

If St. Augustine was such a radical thinker - Why did he keep it to himself? From the fall of the Roman Empire was the start of the dark ages (Augustines Time). The Greeks followed by the romans were the true thinkers. And thank you to the muslims in Spain for keeping it alive (not the christiams) If the crusades hadn't invaded and stumble on the great libraries owned by Arabs western world would still be in the dark ages today!!

--The Romans never produced a single intellectual innovation.
--The Moors made Averroes stand in public while receiving spittle to his face from passerbys.
--We ARE in the Dark Ages today!
