But yeah, Chris. Sometimes, I think you and I just may be the only ones who still read the comics instead of just catching the movies, because if the rest of these people had ever even glanced at a comic book, they'd know Jane was better than the emo Punisher.

Heh. Dude, you have NO IDEA how many times I hear people whine about comic book movies, Spider-Man 3 most recently, and when they start ripping into it, I simply reply 'Have you ever even read the comic book?' A crying shame too.
My only problem ... ( 4 months ago by Bluebird0020)
My only problem with Spidey 3 was Venom. He's my favorite Spiderman villian, so maybe that's why I'm a bit harsh on the way they had him, but...seriously. He had about a scene and a half, and they never even said his name in the movie. I wish they would've left off Eddie Brock after the part of him getting taken over by the symbiote. Finished off Sandman, and saved Venom for the next movie. That was my only real problem with it.
Yeah. That's what ... ( 4 months ago by Hyperkid37)
Yeah. That's what most people thought. Course, at least Venom had a name in advertising. I'd rather be no named in the movie then be dubbed 'New Goblin'. What, is it like New Coke now? Get New Venom and New Sandman in Spider-Man 4?
Good point. I have ... ( 4 months ago by Bluebird0020)
Good point. I have no idea where they pulled the "New Goblin" from. I just kinda imagine them sitting in a circle and picking names out of a hat.
"Okay, okay! We got New Goblin. But just to see if we had caught something else..." Then they reach back in there and grab another one, "Oooh, The Gobster...that would have been nice..."

I disagree. The skull in the comics is completely acceptable - however, putting a skull on a t-shirt for a live action movie kind of adds a childish scheme to the whole gritty and merciless portrayal. The 2004 version was absolutely deplorable and a large insult to me. I've been reading the Punisher comics for a very long time, and the movie was just another one of those time a dozen, shit blows up, people die action movies with the Marvel logo.

I'm not too much of a stickler for comic book accuracy in a film adaptation as long as it does not stray too far away from the original plot. I feel both Punisher films were misinterpretations of the comics. While the 2004 filmed focused a bit on the Marvel Knights series - it was completely corny! Cars blowing up in the shape of the Punisher skull? Gimme a break.
You obviously have ... ( 3 months ago by Bluebird0020)
You obviously have a really educated perspective, and aren't another of those idiots saying the Dolph movie was better, when they have no comic book background whatsoever. Personally as far as comic accuracy goes, I think that's the most important thing. Because if you're not going to make it accurate to the source material, then you might as well just change the name of the movie and make it into something else if it doesn't respect the source material.
As far as it being ... ( 3 months ago by Bluebird0020)
As far as it being corny, I can kinda see where you're coming from, but I have to disagree. Again, the skull goes back to the whole comic accuracy thing. If you're not comic accurate...then...you might as well be Tim Burton. The only thing they changed was the reason he wore the skull. In the comics, it was so people would instinctively shoot at it when he walked in the room, drawing fire towards his heavily armored body, rather than his bare head. In the movie, it was because of his kid.

having not seen this movie since the 90's, i watched it again recently. I gotta say it really stands up on its own. dolph's one liners make this movie better than it already is. Actually refreshing to see 80's/early 90's movies when directors made movies with the style they interpreted, in constrast to today where in many cases films are toned down to fit into pg13 ratings to make more money.

If I knew you, I'd give you the tightest and most completely heterosexual hug you've ever had.
Unless of course you're a chick, which would be preferable. But regardless, to know Dolph Lundgren was NOT the Punisher is good news either way.

In my opinion the 2004 punisher is an even worse adaption. First of all how do you have a punisher movie in Miami his family was killed in Central Park for gods sake. They had him pussy footing around that entire movie moving fire hydrants and taking pictures of gay criminals trying to frame people. The punisher from the comics never beet around the bush and neither did the 89 punisher . I know the 2004 punisher was an origin story but the problem was it wasn't his.

Well actualy it was Tampa which is still in Florida but no where near Miami. Ill let u off for tht. The 2004 adaption was great but u are right about it being a bit of balls up on the comic stories. This film looks pretty good but i dont believe this Dolph guy as the punisher. He looks enough like him but he sounds like a stoner puff. He might as well be the 10 year old boy. I just hope they make a decent punisher film in New York.
