can are certainly more interesting than pink floyd. the two bands have nothing at all in common as far as i'm concerened. pink floyd were SO white, whereas can were SO funky. no contest in my book.

Well, Pink Floyd's early singles, and first two albums, especially "Piper at the Gates of Dawn," bore alot of similarity to Can, certainly not the -same- bands, but to deny that they had alot in common is to simply be foolish.

I love the way people try to describe Can-- Krautrock, Prog-Rock, even as a "jam-band."
They are totally unique! Can sounds like Can! That's why I love them!!!

Nikolaibarber said it back there. Can got the funk. The history. They had Jaki, not only a pure funk drummer but also a extremely talented [free]jazz-drummer. They had Damo Suzuki, the perfect match for the sound of the band. Unique. Well the thing with Can is that every musician in the band is unique. And that's the BIG difference between Pink Floyd and Can.
Can has the Can-sound and no other band would be able to but it down like them. Not even near.

in Pink Floyd every musician is also unique. Nick Mason, Rick Wright, Roger Waters & Dave Gilmour are splendid artists. Offcourse Syd Barrett was also a genius but unfortunately he went down by LSD.

How can you say that? I've just discovered Can so i don't them as good as I know Pink Floyd but for now I think I still find Pink Floyd better, although Paperhouse is such a unique song.

the thing is Pink Floyd had only one really special person: Syd Barrett. Can, on the other hand, didn't have the same line-up all the way. to me, Syd Barrett was the one and only, the man, the legend, a band by his own.you must note that during 1967 NOTHING like "the piper at the gates of dawn" had appeared before.can have something from the upcoming punk rock energy and post-punk spiritualiy, though.when you listen to Can it's like "nice-souning experimental",Barrett is like "music painting".
Can were brilliant ... ( 5 days ago by Vandertop)
Can were brilliant live and could be almost scary in their intensity. They'd be improvising and suddenly the music would shift to another level completely...like it was no longer four musicians playing but ONE MIND!
