hey, thinkingbetter ... ( 1 day ago by Gimmickedcardmagic)
hey, thinkingbetter, if you say evolution is real, then can you please explain to me why we don't see half-monkey-half-human beings nowadays? why do we only see a full monkey, or a full human? since you say evolution is true, that means that monkeys must still be evolving even till nowadays. but we don't see half monkeys. how can evolution be true then? is it because there is only been 1 "evolution period" in history and everything evolved? nonsense
Evolution is ... ( 1 day ago by ThinkingBetter)
Evolution is extremely slow. When you look at what happens through 1000s of generations small steps become very visible.
Species come and go. Many hominid generations exist and you probably only know the Neanderthals.
And the modern human will continue to evolve. We will probably be on a new track of human controlled evolution soon through genetic manipulation - like it or not.
Your food is actually already starting to include genetic improvements we've done!
Maybe good...maybe not.
One aspect of our ... ( 1 day ago by ThinkingBetter)
One aspect of our evolution is that we now actually live in a very interesting era where we master nature better than ever.
I've worked with science projects in artificial intelligence and one aspect of a long-term thinking of where we will end up is that we might create a superior intelligent "being" that can expand it's own intelligence perhaps to extremes hard to imagine.
In this way we might end up being the actual creator of a real "God" truly ruling over us many years from now.
ThinkingBetter, you ... ( 1 day ago by BrotherMurray)
ThinkingBetter, you put your trust in the intellect of men?
Actually I would ... ( 1 day ago by ThinkingBetter)
Actually I would say yes and no. We live in a world where we some times must trust others and their capabilities. When you are onboard a commercial aircraft you trust many researchers, engineers, technicians and of course the pilots. You just have to.
BUT...when it comes to things like research in weapon technologies and gene manipulation I am deeply concerned and have little trust. Crazy leaders might drive crazy scientists to do crazy things...some day. This we should all worry about.
If you don't mind ... ( 1 day ago by BrotherMurray)
If you don't mind me asking, have you received the baptism of the Holy Ghost?
wwjd, evolution is ... ( 1 day ago by Dramphooey)
wwjd, evolution is a species becoming better adapted to its environment so I guess it depends on what you consider "improved." We did not evolve from monkeys; monkeys and humans have a common ancestor.
Yes, I'm both ... ( 1 day ago by ThinkingBetter)
Yes, I'm both batised and confirmed in the Christian faith. My parents, especially my mum, have always been deeply religious and my mum in fact has worked in the church for many years.
I have nothing against Christians.
I have something against religious fanatism, division of us humans through religion and disconnect to our real knowledge through religious propaganda.
The Bible is unfortunately too flawed for me to trust.
By the way, if we ... ( 1 day ago by ThinkingBetter)
By the way, if we humans could stop believing that religion matters, we might help pulling down the virtual walls created between parts of this world.
I have a deep concern about Iran's current very obvious build-up of an extremely dangerous military capability. Even we don't hear it as official explanation, it's SURELY not driven by cultural values. The motivation is religion based 100%. Both the Quran and the Bible have rules about death on people of other faiths by the way.
No, I mean have you ... ( 1 day ago by BrotherMurray)
No, I mean have you received the Holy Ghost as the Apostles did on Pentecost (Acts 2:4)? I'm not talking about religion. I am not talking about Protestantism/Catholicism.
well can science ... ( 1 day ago by Gimmickedcardmagic)
well can science explain the creation of this universe we're living in?
No, I have not. By ... ( 1 day ago by ThinkingBetter)
No, I have not. By the way, I suspect the phenomenon is a kind of hypnosis. But I have no experience in it.
Gimmickedcardmagic, ... ( 1 day ago by ThinkingBetter)
Gimmickedcardmagic,
Many scientists spend their entire career on exactly that!
Example: star formation.
Take a careful look at this university lecture:
"A Star is Born (But How Was it Made?)" with Keivan Stassun
This video is quite down-to-earth but describes well how star formation happens. Our sun is a star. The Biblical explanation of God using "words" to make the Sun appear by saying "Let there be light" is making the Bible hummiliating childish.
And about how life ... ( 1 day ago by ThinkingBetter)
And about how life got created...hey...the science is called abiogenesis. It's one of the more complicated science fields, but science is moving in one direction...FORWARD...
So of course we will find out the NATURAL EXPLANATION how simple organic molecules evolved into extremely primitive life and the known and proven rules of evolution made everything else happen.

I'm sorry, but science is REAL. You belive in fairy tales.
Hypnosis? No. I ... ( 23 hours ago by BrotherMurray)
Hypnosis? No. I can't even describe it, but when the Spirit is upon you, you are still in control. Tell me, what event happened before the church started? In other words, what took place before Peter preached that sermon in Acts 2? What took place that was so vital for the church's very existence?
Do you mean the ... ( 23 hours ago by ThinkingBetter)
Do you mean the sound, wind and firery events from heaven and resulting speaking with other tongues/in other languages?
First, this is potentially more of a fairy tale.
Any such event in current time resembles a level of hypnosis.
Most importantly, don't forget, such experience is not uncommon in other religions too when people in group sessions are being exposed to preaching.
From experience I ... ( 22 hours ago by BrotherMurray)
From experience I can tell you that it is not a fairy tale. It appears you do not believe in the spiritual, which would prevent you from even grasping a basic knowledge of the Bible. It would be good to first shed the Euro-centric paradigm.
I'll be honest, supernatural events do occur in other religions. While God is a spirit, he is not the only Spirit. Fallen angels, demonic manifestations, so on and so forth. They can be cast out in the name of Jesus Christ quite easily.
I have some ... ( 22 hours ago by ThinkingBetter)
I have some religious friends who claim to have seen paranormal phenomena. Certainly people can be very convinced to have seen or experienced "something".
Personally I've never seen or heard a convincing story. My own mum suffered from religious nervous breakdown after having worked in the church for years. She was frequently talking as if she was in contact with Jesus and at moments could not release her mind from that state. It was so serious she ended in a psychiatric hospital for 3 months.

Brother, in other words, our god is an awesome god and their god is an awful god.
I'm sorry about ... ( 15 hours ago by BrotherMurray)
I'm sorry about your mom, but I've never seen an unstable person speak in other tongues.
And to Dramphoeey: Yes, Jesus Christ is awesome and satan is awful. Jesus himself said there is no god beside me.
I like to use my ... ( 14 hours ago by ThinkingBetter)
I like to use my words according to my own opinion.
When I say something is awesome it's because I judged it awesome and not because I try to buy "God's points".
Example...
Hitler was Catholic.
Hitler was the worst and most evil leader in our modern time killing millions.
The German Catholic church clearly supported him.
To me that is one of many reasons God can not be considered awesome.
A true and powerful God would have stopped Hitler and and the millions of killings.
I understand that ... ( 13 hours ago by Belraina)
I understand that you struggle with pain, with suffering, with the destruction, natural disasters, and catastrophic events that take place here on this earth. This pain that you observe is what you cry out against. How can a God that is considered awesome and good and holy and great, and still continue this mess? How can he demand our worship and still leave this issues stagnant? It all comes down to this, God has a plan, and it must be carried out, and the suffering will end with the final day
I don't suffer ... ( 13 hours ago by ThinkingBetter)
I don't suffer myself actually. I'm one of the extremly lucky ones having great wealth, health, job, family and friends.
I am indeed one of the few who belong to the top 5% of humans getting everything they ever want. And certainly it's not because of prayers or religious commitment. Instead I've spent my time on education and career.
People who believe spending a lot of time on religion can improve their lives are living with a false hope.
