It's cruel everywhere. This just happened to be based in the UK because that's where the author is from so he wrote it set in the UK.

Watership down is a lovely book. Sure bunnies die in it but the world is a cruel place. You only see the bad bunnies die in the movie anyway (appart from when the survivers describe how their warren was destroyed by humans).
I went to a nursery playgroup called watership down, they kept rabbits and guinea pigs as pets there.

If your mom were right, maybe ten percent of the chinese population would have had rabies at some point of their lives, and I doubt that's accurate. And people would be afraid to step outdoors, but look at any chinese city and life is going on as normal. I'm looking at google here, and the only information I can find on any sort of spike in rabies infections is dated to 2006, and mostly contained to a certain area, generally affecting the rural south.

This really should have a warning at the beginning that advises people who have a history of depression or suicidal thoughts/tendencies not to watch, because it is the most brutally sad movie ever made.
And it is BRUTALLY sad. I'm not even an animal lover and it has scarred me for life.
Great movie though, don't get me wrong, incredible, powerful stuff.

I like this film but it did not sway my opinion on animal rights i still think groups like peta are self-rightous zeolots. But when we think about the scheme of things that mankind is a cruel mostly to its own kind, i think standing up for the rights of dumb animals seems rather insignificant IMO.

Harsh reality of what's being done to animals.
Funny thing is how humans consider 'animals' to be dumb/stupid. Okay, mankind is so advanced in medicine and science til we put a price tag on saving lives while in a blink of an eye another 'smart' human pushes a button and blows millions of more humans/animals/everything away. Yes, veeeeeeery intelligent beings we are.

You're sort of missing the point - this film doesn't condemn medical testing; rather, animal research for its own sake, without a real purpose. It's pretty much telling people to leave well enough alone, but nowhere does it say that this actually HAPPENS in animal testing.
(Just a note, I'm not for unnecessary testing; medical research can be justified under circumstances, but animal research for the hell of it/cosmetic research cannot be justified.)

Redblade153: it's not medical or cosmetic testing. The scientists in the movie are just testing on animals for the hell of it, but they have no good reason. They're testing the animals' bodies to the test just to find out their limits, for the purpose of documentation.

Okay, having seen the entire movie, I have to say I dunno what you're on about with the whole depression/suicide thing... It makes sense to cry at the end, feel sad for them, but shoot yourself? That's a little dramatic, hmm? It's even open to interpretation as to whether they die or not. Even if you're depressed, you don't shoot yourself because you saw a sad movie.
