everything he said is so true. although i never had a vista problem after updating. althouhg my HD audio driver, the one vista update gave me, just forced my audio to die.

I had updates too my logitech webcam no problems at all but it took dell three days too install a driver for my printer.

chris, i have always had these same problems, for some reason some comps just get to the point where windows updates just start to fail!!! is there any way to troubleshoot this, is there some file to delete or some cache to reset to maybe get it to work, I have a vista machine and an xp machine with failed update problems!

Skip the hardware updates unless you are using the once that came with windows, and even then you shoud probably only install it driver updates from WinUpdate if you have issues related to the hardware.
I install updates blindly on dusins of computers and have only had systems die once or so from it, i think I have updated about 17 mac's and one had issues and one died, but then im not realy an expert on mac.

If you can't get a hardware driver update to work though Windows Update try going to the website of the hardware manufacturer and manually download and install the driver. Windows Update is supposed to make updating your computer easy, but sometimes that's not always the case. 9.9
