well...you won't hear ;)) the dog is himself, Damien Rice... It's almost as if Damien is laughing at his own pathetic infatuation, ashamed that the little dog has "gone a little mad". I think the wolf represents the other man, the one who gets to be with her. So really, it's a song about jealousy.

In an interview he was pointing out that he wrote this song all about those rare 'breed' of people who actually devote most of their personal time to others, and how they are mankind's best friend.. That's why it refers to dogs. Also: "And the dogs they roam, the dogs they.. the dogs they roam, in the good good morning sun.". I think the wolf is when a dog pairs with somebody who's not so 'dog'like.

Hate how people over-analyze all songs. A song and it's lyrics can mean different things to different persons. Get your own opinion of what the song is about and keep it to yourselves! That's the magic of music!
