70C and 200MW? So ... ( 2 months ago by DuuDuu92)
70C and 200MW? So basicly if I installed turbines in my wood-powered sauna I could create more electricity than that? Intresting....
It takes about 10 ... ( 2 months ago by joemc111)
It takes about 10 tons of coal to make 1 meg of Electric for 24 hours. So if you upscale that 10 tons of coal times 500 Megs =5000 tons of coal a day. Coal cost Say $50.00 a ton, now but it too is on the rise. I think in 2 years it will cost over a $150.00 a ton. Now that is what we should be thinking about because that will raise you Electric bill maybe 100%.
Technology is ... ( 2 months ago by skettle2000)
Technology is already here to stop global warming and it is called nuclear power.
Solar and wind our okay but what if asteriod hits the earth and blocks out sun.. wind and solar are than dead big time. Nuclear is way to go.
what if . . . what ... ( 2 months ago by pontifex08)
what if . . . what if . . . what if there is a meltdown, dip shit. Seems more likely than an asteroid.
Nukes are outdated technology.
hahahhah - meltdown ... ( 2 months ago by skettle2000)
hahahhah - meltdown ?!? you idiot, new nuclear technology it is impossible for a meltdown to occur. Get your facts straight !
Yes. A nuke ... ( 2 months ago by pontifex08)
Yes. A nuke meltdown is impossible and an asteroid collision is more likely, especially given we've had a dozen partial to full meltdowns and no major asteroid collisions in the last 50 years.
Wow, you is smart. Can I haz cheezburger?
if an astroid hits ... ( 2 months ago by 1gallon)
if an astroid hits the earth thats big enough to block out the sun, we wont need energy...we'll be dead. nuclear is bad, not risky, where are you gonna put all the waste...durrr
solar, wind, hydro, lunar, theres plenty of alternatives
one might say its ... ( 2 months ago by ActiveStorage)
one might say its nothing but hey
1 km tall 65 m wide tower...
how about high winds? u gotta make the structure extremely rigid therefore costly
It is not the ... ( 1 month ago by alerick68)
It is not the meltdown of nuclear that is the problem. it is the fact that the waste takes so long to half-life down to a safe level. Furthermore, in the southeast droughts of 2007. The Nuclear power plant had to shut down because they didn't have enough coolant water. Not very effective way of creating energy if you have to shutdown energy production because of weather issues. Even solar will still collect energy in a thunderstorm.
how how many deaths ... ( 1 month ago by skettle2000)
how how many deaths have those meltdowns caused dipshit ? how many deaths from an asteriod killing all solar power - BILLIONS. So hold the onions asshole.
Oh don't be silly, ... ( 1 month ago by skettle2000)
Oh don't be silly, compared to the problem of global warming the nuclear waste problem is minor. One isolated case of a coolant problem sounds to me to be grasping at straws.
Finland is happily ... ( 1 month ago by ilkkatapio)
Finland is happily building our next nuclear plant as is and the next two after that one are being planned. Meltdown? No worries rock, no worries roll.
using solar energy ... ( 1 month ago by fuckmeslowly)
using solar energy to cause wind and generate power is a damn good idea, and it sure can't hurt anything............except kites
Try thousands of ... ( 1 month ago by pontifex08)
Try thousands of actual deaths as a result of Chernobyl.
Compare that to NO deaths that have EVER occurred by an asteroid taking out solar power.
You can't be serious, we're talking about a demonstrated problem versus your fantasy land "Deep impact" shit.
When Morgan freeman is President numbnuts, we'll talk. And I like the onions on my burger. Thank you very much.
I would agree this ... ( 1 month ago by pontifex08)
I would agree this is even a bigger problem than meltdowns.
I am just not ... ( 1 month ago by skettle2000)
I am just not willing to risk billions and billions of people dieing. A few thousand is tolerable as far more die in auto accidents each year. I'm not willing to put the future of mankind at stake simply because solar technology is seems "cool".
200mw....? I guess ... ( 1 month ago by nevous8)
200mw....? I guess when people have less appliances / or more efficient ones plus mass world starvation and riots then maybe this could work.

It would be interesting to find the price of one of these things. Just the cost of the materials would be huge, much less construction of it.

Finally, the long awaited monument for my penis is being erected (pun intended). I would like to thank my family and friends, for being there for me, every step of the way. I want to also thank baby jesus for putting all that junk in my (front) trunk.
Oil prices are ... ( 3 weeks ago by dropyourdrawers)
Oil prices are decreasing right now (8-14-08), but that is just a ploy to try and get us to stop (thinking) about stuff like this. The oil companies play mind games with the public, prices over time look like an ac wave on an oscilloscope with ever escalating highs. Gas goes from $5.25 to $5.00 a gallon and people think they got a break, but that was their original goal, $5.00 a gallon. People need to open their eyes to this fact and put an end to BIG OIL.
