Rays greatest talent tho is that he becomes MOST dangerous when hes hurt. THATS what makes him fun to watch. You cant teach that to a fighter, either he like that or he aint. And VERY FEW were like that.

I meen really, Thomas woulda been better-off if he just stopped hitting Ray after the 10th round. When he hurt Ray in the 11th, it just brought out Rays greatest quality again, like he had in their 1st fight. & thats why its so hard to accept losing for Tommy, cause its his OWN fault he woke-up Ray like that. Ray was just awesome, thats all

I totally agree with you BoDiddley24!! Ray was VERY dangerous when he was hurt!! He was an amazing boxer and had a better punch than most people gave him credit for!!

Bo - imagine that, SRL took 3 heavy punches from Hearns for the knock down..2 knock downs doesn't win you a fight! Leonard is the only guy who made Hearns look ordinary! U know what? There's a lot of talk about Mayweather being the best pound for pound fighter ahem...ever! I simply can't see hims beating the stubborn ferociousness of Leonard or the punching bombs of Hearns...I just can't see it!

hearns was robbed,,media and promoters protecting sugar ray ,,the announcers arent lieing,,they say ray needs a knockout,,two knockdowns and they still wont give hearns the fight,,robbery,,,,ray was always pampered,,,,suga ray my ---,,,there is only one sugar ray,,,and thats robinson, 128-1 at one point

I agree about Hearns not doing enough to take the title. Yet that's the same argument people still have today over the Leonard Hagler fight. I personally don't put too much stock in that because of the 10-9 point system. A fighter wins more rounds, he wins the fight. The only problem you have there is like we see in fights from time to time where one fighter wins 7, the other wins 5. The one who won 7 wins his rounds by the skin of his teeth, they guy with 5 wins rounds big, yet loses the fight.

What does that have to do with what I was saying? You said something about the challenger must take the title desisively. I said, though I agree Leonard won against Hagler, he didn't beat the champ decisively. I would say a draw was a fair call for Leonard Hearns II. But even though I agree that Leonard won vs Hagler, going by the old notion that the challenger must whip the champ bad to win, Leonard Hagler could have easily been a draw too. I prefer the 10 point must system ie round by round.

bullshit watch that fight again. Hagler is anyone had leonard in more trouble, at the end of the round leonard did some really gay flashy punches that did nothing.

It did SOMETHING. It won him the fight. You have to keep in mind like I said earlier. Judges only have one chance to score a fight and in many cases with Ray he had the ability th sway a judge in his favor by stealing rounds. In hindsight sometimes we can watch a fight again and score a round differently than we had when we first saw it. But a judge doesn't get that chance. Still, even with the knockdowns, Hearns never had Leonard in the kind of trouble Hearns was in in the 12th round. draw.....

Hagler didnt have leonard in any major trouble like leonard had with hearns.
Hearns was out on hes feet atleast 2 times in this fight.

I agree with BoDiddley that this fight is better than Leonard-Hearns 1, and is in fact a great one! Hearns was too light & weak at 145 lbs. Here, both fighters are strong and can bring it.
I disagree with GuitarBandit about Hearns not winning this one decisively enough. The two knockdowns are huge scoring factors, and even in the spots when Tommy was in trouble, he also landed his own shots in those same rounds.
This one should've been the Hit Man's.

3rd and 11th rds 10-8 hearns. 5th and 12th rds 10-8 for leonard. had the judges scored 10-8 for leonard in one of those rds ray would have won. hearns was hurt too many times in this fight and despite the blind commentators ray won more rds. robbery? far from it.

I thought I had it at first. But, when I went to add them up, I accidentally added the two 10-8 rounds as if they were 10-9 rounds. But I had Tommy winning by 2 points, althought it felt much much close4r than that.

ESPN did a retrospective of Ray Leonards' career recently, where Ray actually admitted that he lost the rematch with Hearns, that it was a poor decision. Ray has also admitted this to Hearns, in person. For this, Leonard has gained my total respect. Anyone who objectively viewed that fight realizes that Hearns had thoroughly dominated the fight up to the final round, where Leonard NEEDED a KO to pull out the victory. Tommy held on, LITERALLY!, to earn the victory. The "Draw", was a disgrace.

Hearns dominated the whole fight for all but two or three rounds. Go ahead and make two of those rounds 10-8 for Leonard if you want, but Hearns still took 9 or 10 rounds. Robbery.
