My brother-in-law spent some pretty cold days on this base, but he tells me they were some of the best days of his life. Why remove a part of history?

Awesome!!! This is already listed as a historical landmark in the national archives. To destroy it will invalidate it's title. Site Summit must be saved !!

Was stationed at Site Summit 1967-1969. Excellent video. Brought back a lot of memories. We need to save this historical Nike site for future generations as this was truely "Alaska's Last Cold War Missile Site".

This excellent remnant of Cold War history and our service should be preserved and, hopefully, restored.

Served at Site Summit 1973-1974. Can not beleive this historical site could be lost. The history and the experience of going there should be made for all.

We must save this historic and raw beauty for future generations to remember the price we must pay for continued freedom and the quality of life we enjoy because of the sacrifice americans have paid for it!

Very well done. What views. I am ex-Nike Hercules. Let's save this site! We can't just let it go without a fight. Get all your friends involved - today. Do it.

Thank you Tim Kelley for the video. It is an amazing place where alot had happened. It should be preserved for our future generations. So little of Alaska's past has been saved, more people are inclined to want to look to the future, but times such as these we must look to our past to preserve our future.
I salute all the men who had served there in the past and say a heart felt "Thank you!"

I never served at Site Summit, but after a 20+ year career associated with Nike, I'm in favor of preserving the site, especially since it still seems to be pretty much intact. Thanks to Tim Kelley and all who served there.

This is a "one of a kind" place. Torn down, it could never be replaced. Do we really think that little of our history ? SAVE SITE SUMMIT

I was stationed there for a short time in '68. It is probably one of the most spectacular historic military sites in the country. Save it!

Thank you Tim for making the video. This brings back many fond memories of the 2 years I spent on Site Summit (72-73). It is definitely worth saving!

An excellent video. There are very few facilities relating to the Cold War. If we continue to destroy these past front lines of defense, the Cold War will not be remembered. SAVE SITE SUMMIT!

I live in Rapid City, South Dakota, near Ellsworth AFB. We had 4 nike sites around the base, before they were shut down in the late 60s.
it's sad that this part of history is being destroyed, before the generations can learn about it. One site, for example, is now being used for storing car parts. Keep up the fight!

I was stationed at Site Summit in 1976-1977. Helped put in the bunkers that framed the opening video. The site is little changed. The building, MTR, TRR, and TTR towers/domes look similar although a bit worn. The views are the same...spectacular! Too bad there is no video of the sun setting. The weather was nice most of the time with the occasional winter storm to liven things up. We should save this site for future generations. The historic and recreational values are outstanding.

PRESERVE IT PLEASE!! Me and a bunch of friends love those places and it would really break my heart to see them destroyed. There is nothing like the feeling you get by walking through a place like this. So much history...though gotta watch out for asbestos so...haha.

great video, I was stationed at Ft. Wainwright(1997-2000) It was cold in the winter -20/-50 but at least we could drive in to fairbanks for some r/r. I remember taking my girlfriend on a scenic drive through the mountains on Eilison Air Force base and seeing some kind of missle sites. They were really cool. I hope you can save the site.

I arrived at Site Summit in June 1964 shortly after the Good Friday earthquake and was assigned there until April 1966 discharge.
The stories all who were assigned there could tell. I was an M P K-9 Corps doing security on the parimeter of the Missle Silos storage area. My hours of duty were at darkness, so I have seen enough snow and wind to last a lifetime.
It would be a tremdous loss to the Cold War
( the purpose for its establishment) to loose this Icon of the time.

I've been there a few times this summer. It's an amazing place, and the history of the base is incredible. Site Summit should be restored and turned into a Cold War museum so that its legacy can live on as a site of Alaskan defense, and not a pile of rubble on top of a mountain.
