One of my favorite Traffic songs; a hauntingly perfect song of temperance. The harmonies of Winwood and Capaldi are great

Sadly, Jim Capaldi on tambourine in this video and also Chris Wood on flute both died tragically young. I knew them both well. They were of huge influence to me as a musician and I know I speak for many other players of that fantastic era.
Dave Mason, of course, was also in the band although not shown in this clip.
Undoubtedly, one of the greatest British bands ever.

Yes, partially true. The Egyptians invented beer (as far as we know) but did not know to germinate then roast or kiln-dry barley to increase the starches that convert into usable, fermentable sugars. That process is called "malting" and was utilized centuries after beer's invention. I think the song is accenting distillation, more specifically than brewing because it also mentions brandy, a stronger alcohol made by distilling wine. Cognac is made by distilling brandy. Thanks, drink up! ;)

Jim Page wqs considering Steve Winwood as the vocalist for his newly formed (at the time) band Led Zeppelin. Imagine if that had come to fruition. Thre'de be no Led Zeppelin or Traffic, as we know them today... Not a pleasant thought..
