Side-by-Side Comparison 1, Dub and Original Sailormoon

Video Description:
This was fun, albeit extremely time-consuming... This is a humorous look on differences between the original Sailormoon and the wonderful dubbed version *insert sarcasm here*. The scene is from season 2, which was dubbed by DiC. We won't say it was done by monkeys... (monkeys would've done a better job) but we will say that we believe the dubbing was very poor and the show was extremely altered and edited (we prefer the term 'butchered') to appear as 'American' as possible. We are huge fans of the original Sailormoon and would love to see it re-dubbed, with today's acceptance of anime and Japanese culture, sometime in the near future.
Please bear in mind that this is highly opinionated AND that you are under no obligation to watch it. We would prefer that, if you respond, you do so intelligently, perhaps offer ligitimate reasoning that supports or reputes our opinions and state some of yours. All opinions are of value, whether you agree or disagree. However, if you feel the need to repond with insults in all capital letters, by all means, do so, but we won't butt heads with flamers who want a fight and not a discussion.

Time for a rant!
1. The Rini Chibi Usa thing. Usagi then Chibi USA. Serenity, Serena, Rini. GETIT?
2. DiC Replaced most of their music, why would they leave one japanese music cue in their dub? Use your head.
3. OMG MUSIC SYNC. Oh wow, the attack synced a bit with the music. Big. Fucking. Whoop.
4. Lets put this into perspective. Black is a negative tone of shade. Nega, Black. GETIT?!

5. The future thing, it was a metaphor. Also, you're wrong. Rini went back in time to get the crystal to save Neo Queen Serenity. The Negamoon went to the past to capture RINI.
6. You say that the script isn't like the japanese one. Your basing it off of subtitles and translated scripts. Since when are translated scripts 100% accurate? They could have said different words. Also, may I remind you this was a show for the younger group of kids.

8. Moon Scepter Elimination sounds better than Moon Princess Halation. The definition of Halation is Blurring of the visual image due to glare from strong illumination. So in other words, the Japanese version is an attack that fires light at you and blurs/blinds you. The English one actually makes sense because its a scepter that ELIMINATES your enemies.

I never said japanese characters didnt also have high piched voices but at least with them i can teel the difference in charcters without having to think of it first. Most english voices are obviously fake, people masking their voices, trying to make them sound younger therfore making them higher. all girls dont have the same tone voices (some at my school if you didnt know better would think they were boys).

anyway, some japanese have high-pitched voices too i turn down the volume whenever i think someone is about to scream, thats just me. everyone is entitled to their opinions. i think the original is better you like the dub.

Her name is USAGI meaning 'rabbit/bunny'. they changed it to serena, one, because of the whole princess serenity thing, and two, the name refers to a japanese story about a bunny on the moon.

actually the real reason why they changed it is because DiC said that the viewers dont know what those japanese names mean.thats why.they changed the name of most characters.

IMO, Funimation should redub Sailor Moon. On their channel, they got many great dubs of animes. They use Japanese styled music, use very little censorship (Only as much as Adult Swim), and do good voice work, IMO.

About number 7...can't you think something in a show is unnecessary but still like it? I personally like the original Winx Club (Not the 4Kids dub, it's a Singaporean uncut English dub), but watching the same transformation sequences over and over isn't always fun.

I wouldn't call the Japanese version shit. The dub was okay, but it did edit out and chop up a lot of stuff, not to mention completely censor a lesbian relationship, thus making it worse off in the progress because of the way it was done.

lol, i really enjoyed this. there was one part where i thought the subtitle thing in the english dubb said "flower power", ad to rewind for tht one lol but yeh it was a good vid. great observation with the rini wet the bed thing too. 5 stars and favs.
