What a sweet groove, R.I.P Jeff! Toto is arguable the most underrated band of all time.

I read somewhere (Modern Drummer, I think) -Jeff said the Steely tune "FM" was his personal best--and played to a click. But there were MANY tunes where he didn't need a click. Impeccable "Time"---phrasing for days on end. It's gonna be a while before I play anything remotely close to this. One of the best, period.

I've already emailed Paiste America and talked with Andrew Shrieve at Paiste. He said it's doubtful they'll ever re-cast that 602 Ride you see Jeff playing in this clip. Bonham also used that ride.... I wish they'd re-cast a limited edition in honor of Jeff, but as far as i am aware, it's a no-go. What a bummer.

I got Paiste's literature this past summer when researching cymbals. There IS a 602 listed along with the Gian Beat and 2002s. a 20" medium ride. He may not have kept it, but it's there listed in Bonzo's setup. It's in their small colour booklet with all the guys in there (Paice, Bonham, etc).

I dont see how you can compare any of the greats and say one was better than the other. If you get to that level they are all just...Great Drummers. I could be wrong, but they are sooo good I love watching them all. But then I've only been playing 30 years and never made a living at it. These guys are fun to watch and the comments are great reading. I sure loved listening to Jeff play. He was/is one of my favorites.RIP

Pearl with a raido king snare mainly, especially later on in his career. He used paiste symbols. He's used a lot of other equipment too, but I think that was his main set up. I'm sure google has some pages with better info than I can give.
