I have to disagree. A lot of the questions on Are you smarter than a 5th grader are higher than a 5th grade level. Some of the questions seem more like grade 10-11 questions.

Well, don't really watch the show much at all. I HATE Game shows. But the example still works as long as the parents took the classes and passed at some point.

Mimicking is one of the best ways to learn.
We behave the same, in a nutshell. There are differences, of course.

Actually, we learn our speech in exactly the same way. That's why we know how to speak before we know how to write or spell. Our first words come from mimicking the words being spoken around us. Only later do we actually attach meaning to the word we're speaking, and only after that are we able to use it knowing that those we are speaking it to understand what we mean. Then, when we have a very basic level of communication built up, our understanding becomes clearer and we learn more words.
