indeed it was the first speed metal song. Pun trash and speed metal owe a lot to this song.

I am Hog Tossled-corn husked! This song pulled me back into a filthy 8 track infested hell hole known as mai-room where I spent considerable time as a youth. When aunt Hazel spent the night I enjoyed activating the extension speakers from a 70's Emerson HoC(hunk o' crap)...the second set of speakers were in the guest room occupied by Hazel, somehow the music that made her piss with shock was always the guitar solo which started quiet but by the horiffic end caused Hazel to scream while vomiting

everyone thimks it was ian gillian, the songwriters, producers or cute girls that broke up deep purple. NOPE!!! it was the one and only ritchie blackmore because he was an asshole to work with and plus he didn't like the fact that the rest of deep purple was trying to win over the MTV generation.

In some respects ur right. RB leaving in '75 was the catalyst 4 the break up of DP but I think he was right 2 leave. U only have 2 listen 2 the diff between Come Taste The Band & RB's Rainbow 2 c they were going in completely diff directions. In later years it was RB that wanted 2 court the MTV generation. This can b clearly seen by the direction of Rainbow in their JLT years and the Slaves & Masters album. DP continue 2 b a very much non-MTV band 2 this day. I think that debunks your argument?

It is true that Iain Paice just has to be one of the greatest drummers ever, and he really does carry the band a lot here. Gillan is rubbish, forgets the words and generally bottles the high notes throughout - I think he even admitted being hugely disappointed with his singing on the album, spinning it that he had the flu. Blackmore seemed to be fighting with Lord for the solo spots, and Lord often won, which was a real pity. I did like Purple, just thought they imploded at times.

Blackster, Fair comments - and I agree my words were a bit harsh, I maybe should have said Gillan was disappointing on THIS album. But these were the days of excellent live singers such as Paul Rodgers, David Byron (Uriah Heep), Ozzie Osbourne...even Purple's supporting group had a singer who hit the high notes and had energy when live: They won't print the link - Nazareth, Bad, Bad Boy Live!
